Hiring a car to travel from Portugal to Spain

Thanks for that, Linda,

I suspect that will be the case all over.

My Mum and her partner are coming over to Praia Da Luz the night before we leave, so I can help with the drive back. I just wanted to check if I could hire a car at a reasonable price so they wouldn't have to drag themselves off the beach in Chipiona!

I don't fancy a bus ride with a 2 year old who'd want to get off every five minutes!

Hi Brendan,

This astronomic insurance fee is standard I'm afraid. All I can suggest is that you try the car hire companies based at Faro Airport and see if any of the smaller ones offer a better deal - but I'm not optimistic! You will need to contact them individually rather than go through the Cartrawler search engine as this does not enable you to pick up and drop off in different locations.

Your other alternative is to get a bus from Faro to Seville and hire another car in Spain which I appreciate is not ideal.

Sorry not to have better news!

Linda

Hi Gary,

Great site and FAQ's etc. My Mum has lived in Chipiona for two years now, so I've a vested interest in the region, so to speak. It's a bummer that there are no longer any direct flights to Jerez from Manchester, or nearby, but we can hope and wait.

Anyway, my wife, son and I are holidaying on the Algarve in June, and instead of returning back to the UK from Faro, we were hoping to hire a car in Lagos, drive to Chipiona, and drop it off either in Rota, Chiclana or at Jerez Airport a couple of days later.

Avis have quoted me £500!!!! Which includes a £415 one way fee.

Do you know of any companies that accommodate one way hire between the two countries but without the extortionate add-on?

Regards
Brendan Casey
