Spanish rail passes for senior citizens

Hi Sue,

A Tarjeta Dorada (Golden Ticket) is available for pensioners (over 60) and people with a 65% or more disability. The ticket gives a 40% reduction on the price of single or return journey any day of the week. Those accompanying a disabled traveller also receive the discount.

I don't know how good your Spanish is but further details are available on the Renfe website at http://www.renfe.es/productos/on_tdorada.html If you cannot understand it you can always cut and paste the text through a free online translation service like http://www.freetranslation.com/

Hi Gary,

I am not sure if you can help with my query or not. My partner and myself are both pensioners who have retired to Spain, I would like to know if there is a pensioners rail card entitling us to reduced rail travel as we would like to explore Spain by train and if so where and how do we apply for it. Thank you for any information you can provide our nearest mainline station is Alicante.

Kind Regards

Sue Scott

Is the Golden Card for senior train discounts for non-Spanish residents also? One posting said 40% off for all days but I read somewhere else that it was 25% on weekends. Is there a place to e-mail Renfe in English for clarification?

Hi Margaret,

The Golden Card can be pùrchased by non Spanish residents.

I don't know of an email address where you can email Renfe in English, but could the 25% you are referring be for the Rail Europe Senior (RES) card?
