Baggage weight restrictions

I have had this problem when travelling from the USA back into Spain when the luggage limits reduce, and I am afraid you will need to keep to the 20kg limit if you don't want to pay excess baggage charges.

I am travelling from BOGOTA to LONDON with a transit at Madrid Airport, flying AIR COMET.

My question is, will i need to retrieve my baggage and check-in again in Madrid?

My concern is that my baggage limit from Bogota to Madrid is 40kg BUT my baggage limit from Madrid to London is only 20kg! I need to know whether I have to keep my baggage under 20 because of this, or pay excess baggage if i exceed 20kg, or If my bags are automatically sent through to the next carrier, that the limit does not apply.

Please help!!!
