Getting from Lagos in Portugal to Barcelona

The transport links between Portugal and Spain are not good and the only flights into Barcelona are from Lisbon. Basically you have the following options:

Bus from Lagos to Seville - details at http://www.faroairportguide.com/faro-to-seville.htm then a train from Seville to Barcelona (which takes a very long time with a lot of stops) - details at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir130.jsp&O=51003&D=BARCE&AF=

Or you can hire a car and drive it but it is almost 1300km and would take you around 14 hours.

My friend and I need to get from Lagos to Barcelona in early July. I was wondering what the best and cheapest way to do this is? is there a bus from Faro? or should we fly?
Any ideas would really help!!
