Left luggage storage at Madrid Airport

Hi Gary

Is the left luggage at Madrid airport within or outside the customs area? We are flying BA London Madrid then connecting Easyjet to Casablanca. Would like to leave a very large bag at the airport as we stay in Madrid on the way back and do not need that bag in Morocco. But don’t think we have time to go out of customs and back again. Also can I have an idea of the charges? It weighs about 30kg and is extra large.

Thanks

Barry

Hi Barry,

There are three left-luggage offices at Madrid Barajas Airport in T1, T2 and T4 but they are all through customs just off the baggage reclaim halls.

All baggage left at the left-luggage office passes through an x-ray checkpoint to verify that they do not contain dangerous items or objects. Prices vary depending on size and time, but as a rough guide one day or less costs €4 for a small or large locker; 2 – 15 days costs €5 per day (large) or €4 per day (small) Larger storage space is available. (Tel: +34 91 393 6805)

Linda

Hi Linda

I think I may need the larger storage – is that in the same place? Also will I be able to go in and out of customs (Australian Passport) and is it quite quick?

Thanks

Barry

Hi again Barry,

All the storage is in the same place. You will be able to go in and out of customs but the speed depends on how many flights are arriving at the same time as yours and the queues they bring. Usually the non Schengen passport facility is pretty quiet, but if you get someone in front of you with a problem you know how long it can take!

Lost luggage at Madrid Airport

Hi Jo,

Have you spoken to Ground Force who are the ground handling agents for Air Europa at Madrid Airport as they should be able to advise you on the best course of action. Their number is 913 937 082.

Linda

Dear Gary,

I am in a predicament as I am supposed to setting sail across the atlantic but I took a flight from Gran Canaria with Air Europa via Madrid to Lisbon,Portugal (TAP) and my rucksack never turned up in Portugal. The lost and found in Lisbon believe it to be in Madrid but there doesn't seem to be any communication with them. I have noted the Aena number and will try but was wondering that if I got a flight to Madrid that I would be able to personally search the ,lost baggage as my rucksack has no address tag on it?

Is there anything else I can do as it has already been missing a week and I would like to set sail soon.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to any suggestions.

Yours Kindly
Jo Williams

Hiring a car at Tenerife Airport

If they don't have any at the Hertz desk you should be able to get maps at the newsagents there. In the meantime if you follow this link it will give you driving directions and a route map from Tenerife North to Puerto de la Cruz:
http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/int/dyn/controller/ItiWGPerformPage?ie=utf-
8&reinit=1&strStartCityCountry=EUR&strStartAddress=aeropuerto+tenerife+north&str
StartMerged=tenerife&strDestCityCountry=EUR&strDestAddress=centro&strDestMerged=
puerto+de+la+cruz&image2
.x=25&image2.y=13

Thanks LInda.

Are there maps available at TFN to go to Puerto de la Cruz and to the
south?

You need to go to the Hertz car hire desk which is in an area in the baggage reclaim hall next to the luggage carousels on the ground floor of the terminal building at Tenerife North. They will complete the necessary paperwork and tell you exactly where to collect your hire car from.

Linda

We will be picking a car up from Hertz at North Tenerife - Los Rodeos
airport.
When we arrive at the airport, where is Hertz rental car?
Thank you for your reply.

Easyjet lost property at Barcelona

Hi Adele,

Flightcare are the ground handling agents/lost property for Easyjet at Barcelona Airport and you can ring them on +34 932 98 3330. Or if you don't get any joy there the general lost property number at Barcelona is +34 932 983 349 / Fax: +34 932 983 843.

Hope you manage to locate the wallet.

Linda

Hi – hope you can point me in the right direction! My son left a wallet of games for this PSP on the Gatwick to Barcelona flight on Thursday 22nd November. WE tried to locate the Easy Jet lost property department at Barcelona but with no success. Coming back to England we went to lost property at Gatwick who gave us some numbers but I am hopeful you might be able to direct me to the proper number for Easy Jet Lost Property that I can either call or email. The wallet had about £200 worth of games in it so I am keen to locate it,

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Geting from Madrid to Oviedo

Hi Aubrey,

Asturias is the airport in Oviedo. As presumably your sister will be flying into Madrid from the States she can either get a train (but the service is very limited) - details at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir130.jsp&O=MADRI&D=15211&AF=2008
&MF=01&DF=06&SF=0&ID=i or she can get a flight with any of the following airlines who fly from Madrid to Asturias: Spanair, Air Nostrum LA Mediterraneo, Easyjet or Iberia.

Hope you manage to sort something out for her.

Linda

Dear Gary,

My sister will be going to university in Oviedo in January and I am trying to give her the best advice in getting there. She will be traveling from the States on Sunday January 6th. The best way it seems is to fly into Madrid and then take a train to Oviedo. Do you have any other ideas or advice?

All the best,

Hi Gwenan,

The nearest hotel I can find to the airport is the Barcelo Pueblo Park - details at - http://el-arenal.traveleurope.com/barcelo-pueblo-park.htm - which has its own cycling centre so hopefully will be sympathetic to your plight and be able to assist.

Linda

I see from the website that there is no left luggage at Palma Airport, since we intend to bring our bikes to the island in boxes and will need the boxes for the return flight do you have any suggestions on storage?. Otherwise are there any airport hotels where we could stay the first and last night ? Usually when we do this they will store the boxes for us for the holiday period.

Findinfg employment at Gibraltar Airport

Hi Suzi,

Gibraltar is classed as a UK Airport is not managed by Aena (the Spanish Airport Authority) and is actually operated by the Royal Air Force which is why they advertise in the UK. All I can suggest is that you write to the airport direct at Winston Churchill Avenue, Gibraltar.

Linda

Gary,

I am looking for a position at Gibraltar Airport, do you have any knowledge about how I can go about this, I have looked at various airlines but the only positions they advertise are in U.K.

I was a retail manager for many years and have also worked in the travel industry, are there any retail outlets who recruit?

Latest news on Castellon Airport

Hi Zanek,

Follow is the latest information we have:

"We have just received a report from one of our readers who has just got back from this area (October 2007). They drove all round the airport perimeter fence and two large cranes are now in place to commence building and car park area is clearly outlined and levelled. There are also signs up at J44 AP7 announcing new link road - C13 - to airport. This has not started yet but there is some work nearer to airport site up the road from Torreblanca. So maybe it is happening!

Stop press: We have just head that the project for Corvera has been delivered to the regional government and should be with the Development Ministry in early December. The Murcia government's public works chief, has confirmed that the project for the new Murcia International Airport has now been delivered to the regional government, and is expected to be sent on to the Development Ministry at the beginning of next month. He said it appears likely that construction could start in the first quarter of 2008, for completion at the beginning of 2010.

The contract to build and manage the new airport was signed at the end of July: awarding the 40 year management concession to the Aeromur S.A. consortium. The Murcia President announced at the time that Castellon will have an initial annual operating capacity of 1.5 million passengers to increase up to 5.2 million by 2015."

Getting around in Girona

Many thanks Linda- that’s great.

Best,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Many thanks for your kind comments. To answer your questions, if you visit http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/girona-airport-buses.html you will find the points you raise covered there or links to the various websites which will give you current routes and costs of tickets.

Your hotel is a 30 minute journey from the airport by taxi (21km) so a taxi will cost in the region of €30 and you will have no problem in getting one outside the arrivals terminal. Personally at that time of night I would not mess around with a bus and just jump in a taxi.

Barcelona is a fabulous city so you should have a great weekend.

Linda

Hi Gary,

Firstly I would like to congratulate you on the site- as a first time traveller to Barcelona I have found it to be absolutely invaluable!

My queries are as follows:

· I'll be coming into Girona on on the 23:50 RyanAir flight from Bristol- I note that the last bus from the airport leaves just 25mins later. Are they usually pretty good at making sure that their timing is specifically catered for passengers on these flights, or have you heard horror-stories of people being left behind because of delays getting through passport control etc?

· I and my partner are just staying for two nights so is it possible to book a return ticket for the Girona airport bus and, if so, how much would it cost and can we purchase it in advance of our journey?

· We've booked a hotel in Barcelona but are struggling to figure out if the place that the bus would drop us (Placa Sant Joan?) is close to where we'll be staying, and also if it'll be easy to get a taxi from there to the hotel at such a late time at night? The hotel is called Paral-lel and is located at cl poeta cabanyes, 5-7, Barcelona.

Thanks again for the site and I look forward to your feedback…

Best,

Matt

Lost luggage with Vueling at Barcelona Airport

Hi Michele,

I am afraid we are an independent airport guide and do not work for the airlines or Aena (the Spanish Airport Authority) and therefore cannot help you with a lost luggage claim. But I have found a telephone number for Vueling lost luggage at Barcelona Airport is 932 984 840

Hope you manage to sort something out.

Linda

Hi,

I am trying to get some help to find out the status of my compensation for the loss of 3 pieces of luggage; 5 pieces of luggage were lost on the July 7th flight from Rome to Barcelona, 2 pieces were returned after about one week and the other 3 pieces of luggage have never been returned.

I submitted all of documentation, including original boarding passes and luggage receipts, with a letter on September 7th. I have not heard anything from Vueling. I have tried calling, but have been told there is not a phone number to talk to someone directly, that I must write more letters.

I am attaching copies of two letters:

1) Vueling.doc – letter describing the situation and asking for status, dated August 6, 2007

2) Vueling – compensation.doc – Letter asking for compensation; the original letter was sent by registered mail, dated September 7, 2007

After almost 5 months, I would appreciate some information on what I can do to rectify this situation.

Hi Nan,

I have checked the Renfe website and you are quite right in that the timetables only run up until 21st December. I have telephoned Renfe and trains will definitely be running over this period but they have not opened the booking service yet which is why no timetables have been published. They couldn't tell me exactly when they will be open, so suggest that the only thing you can do is keep checking on a regular basis.

Shuttle buses from the aircraft at Tenerife South Airport

Thank you so very much for your prompt reply to my email. You certainly have put me at ease and I can now hopefully book my holiday for next April. Many thanks again x

Hi Sharon,

At Tenerife South Airport you disembark from the aircraft using one of the eight airbridges that connect directly to the terminal or by airport passenger bus. There is never any guarantee which option you will be given and usually the pilot is only told where to taxi the plane just before he lands. Tenerife South is not a very large airport and all I can suggest is that you talk to the cabin crew on your flight and explain the situation so that they can arrange for you to be escorted to the terminal if you are unlucky enough to be at one of the stations that mean you have to use the bus as your means of transport.

Linda

There are no buses to Zamora from Madrid I'm afraid. The only way you can get there is to travel from Madrid to Valladolid - details at https://www.alsa.es/VentaParticulares/AGVenta and then get a taxi to Toro (there are no buses linking Valladolid to Zamora or Toro). It's a 69km journey which will take about an hour and cost in the region of €85.

Visas and customs clearance at Madrid Airport

Hi Steve,

Visas are a minefield so I am very reluctant to give you any advice on this. In theory she should not need to clear customs between T4 and T4S. If you let me know which airline she is travelling with I can give you their contact details at Madrid Airport as your safest bet is to check it out with them.

Linda

Gary,

We are arranging for my girlfriends mother to visit us in London from Colombia on a UK visa.

The available flights all go via Madrid and require a transfer from terminal 4 to 4S.

As the flights are with the same carrier her bags will be checked from Bogota to London.

However the unknown is passport control / immigration. Does she need to go through customs / immigration in transferring flights between terminals T4 and T4S?

We had a separate set of flights book but as she had to transfer between terminals T4 and T1 she needed a Spanish visa, which unfortunately was denied, so had to cancel the tickets and are now looking into other alternatives.

Thanks for your help with this.

The only way I know of to get from Chiclana to Malaga is to get a bus to Cadiz - details at http://www.cmtbc.es/sistema.php?op=2 - which is a 35 minute journey and will cost around €1.50. If you want to get a taxi it is a 25km trip and will cost around €35. You then have to get another bus to Malaga - details at http://www.ctsa-portillo.com/ima/pdf/malaga-estacion.pdf - as you will see this journey takes either 4 hours or 5 hours 30 minutes depending on which route you take. The cost is around €21.

You can then get a taxi or bus from the bus station to the airport - details at http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/malaga-airport-buses.html

Hope this is of some help.

Linda

Hi Linda

The information was found on this website http://chiclana.costasur.com/en/autobuses.html. Is this incorrect? Do you know of any way of getting from Chiclana to Malaga via bus/train and how long it would take/how much it would be?

Many thanks

Hi Jonathan,

I can't find any direct buses from Chiclana to Malaga - which bus company's timetable did you get this information from?

Linda

Hi Gary,

Great website! Have found that there is a Malaga bus from Chiclana at 1630 but don't know how long it takes and whether I'd have time to get my flight at 2110. I guess so but hoping you can confirm?

Regards,

Jonathan
