Minibus hire at Malaga Airport

Thank Linda I will try them.

Best Regards
Michelle Taylor

Hi Michelle,

As time is on your side, it's worth ringing a company we work with a lot called Cartrawler. They have a database of car rental agencies which they search to come up with the best car deals to meet your requirements. As your request is a bit unusual it would be best to ring them on one of the following numbers:

England 0141 005 0007
Ireland 01 499 9600
USA 201 581 9019
Europe + 353 (0) 1 499 9600

They do hire out 12 seater minibuses - it just a case of whether they can get hold of them for you and what the cost will be.

Linda

Hi

We are a group of friends who are looking to travel to Malaga airport at the end of May next year. Our group is made up of 21 (10 adults and 11 children) we were hoping to find a car hire rental firm that hired minibuses, an ideal solution for us would be 2 no. 12 seat self-drive minibuses, however I can not find any companies that hire these type of vehicles, do you know of anyone?

Using paper driving licence for car hire

Hi Louise,

You really need to check this with Cartrawler as they know which car hire company you are using. Having said that, the driving rules on mainland Spain are the same as the Balearic and Canary Islands so hopefully it will be OK.

You can email Cartrawler (quoting your booking reference) at http://www.cartrawler.com/support.asp

Linda

Hi Gary

We have booked a car through your website Car Trawler

We need to establish is if they will accept a UK paper Driver license

We went to Mallloca this year and they did but we have never been to main land Spain

Starting to panic a bit as some has said they may not and we arrive on 18th

Regards

Louise

Strike at Palma Airport?

Thanks Linda

Hi Julia,

I haven't heard of any strikes and there is nothing in the local news here, so hopefully what you've heard is just a vicious rumour!

Linda

Hello Gary

I heard a rumour that there are to be a series of strikes in Palma Airport every Saturday in August. I am due to fly out on Sat 4th and return on Sat 18th and am worried about which services will be affected. Could you please advise me?

Kind regards

Car hire in Marbella and Faro

Thanks so much but I just called and they want over $1,000,00 for 7 days and then a $700.00 drop off charge making the total nearly $2000.00!!!! Back to the bus...

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Success and good news! Avis will now let you collect a car in Spain and drop it off in Portugal https://www.avis.com/AvisWeb/reservation/RateShopperOneWay?FORM_NAME=SearchRentalLocation&ORI_Pub=LocationList&ORI_COUNTRY_CODE=PT&ORI_ACTION=RESERVATION&ORI_SESSION_LANG=en&ORI_CITY_NAME=Faro&ORI_STATE_CODE=&LOCATION_CODE=FAO&x=26&y=6

Linda

Hi Gary, You can count me in on the same trip as many people are attempting to accomplish- Faro- Marbella. Gosh why should it be so HARD!! Anyway, we would love to drive it but can't find a car company to allow the drop off. Let me know if you had any success with your previous request. I would surely appreciate the car companies name.
I am aware of the bus travel connections, but would prefer to drive ourselves. Maybe someone should make a business out of this trip...

Best Regards,

Getting from Girona to Salou

Hi again Paul,

There's really very little time difference. It all depends on your arrival time at Girona.

Linda

Hi Linda
Thank you for your advice. I was wondering would it be better if i got a bus to Barcelona from the airport and then caught the train to Salou, because I have checked the train times and there is a 90 minute wait in barcelona for the train to Salou. What would be quicker?

Hi Paul

You can get a train from Girona to Salou. but as you can see there is only one train at day at 10.42 http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir120.jsp&O=79300&D=?&AF=2007&MF=MM&DF=DD&SF=NaN&ID=i
and I can't find any bus links at all to get you to your destination.

Or you can get a train from Girona to Barcelona http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir130.jsp&O=79300&D=BARCE&AF=2007&MF=MM&DF=DD&SF=NaN&ID=i
and then on to Salou http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir120.jsp&O=BARCE&D=?&AF=2007&MF=MM&DF=DD&SF=NaN&ID=i

The other way is via Tarragona, but then you are limited to a couple of trains a day again,

The only other option is a taxi which is a 200km journey will cost in the region of €220.

To get to Girona Station you can get a bus from the airport http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/girona-airport-buses.html

Hope this helps.

Linda
Hi Gary,
I am arriving at Girona airport on 13th aug and need to get to Salou. Please can you tell me the quickest, cheapest route.

Getting from Girona to L'Estartit

Hi Amanda,

There is no bike hire at the airport and you're right in thinking that 10.00 pm will be too late to get anything in Girona. I must admit that if I were you I would feel much safer hiring a car. You can get a competitive quote for car hire at the airport at http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/car-hire-spain.html

This links you with a company called Cartrawler who we work in partnership with. They hold a database of local car hire firms and can usually come up with some good prices.

Linda

Hi Gary,
I will be travelling to Gerona airport on route to L'Estartit on 7 Sept.I
am trying to work out how to get there. I would like to know if its
possible to hire a scooter/motorbike from the airport? If not can I do this
in Gerona city? I will be arriving at about 10pm and i think this will this
be too late to travel into Gerona to get a bike (i.e they will be shut?)
Should i just hire a car instead?

Getting from Barcelona to Sitges

This is SO helpful. I can't thank you enough.
Best wishes,
Ros

Hi Ros,

If you go by train you will have to get a bus, metro train or taxi from the airport to Barcelona Sants railway station in the city centre. Details of transport from the airport to the city centre can be found at http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/barcelona-airport.html

You will have to make one change on the train. You can find details of timetables, etc, at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir120.jsp&O=BARCE&D=?&AF=2007&MF=MM&DF=DD&SF=NaN&ID=i

The Barcelona Airport Bus (Mon Bus) stops at the corner of terminal B next to the access for the technical block and runs from the airport to Sitges at 9:40, 13:40 17:40, 21:40. on Sundays. If this fits in with your ETA I would think this is your easiest and best option (especially with 2 children).

Or better still get a taxi from the airport to Sitges which will cost in the region of €50-€60 for the four of you - journey distance is 34km and should take about 30 minutes.

Linda

We are travelling to Sitges on Sunday 12th August. Originally the apartment manager advised us to take a bus from Barcelona airport to Sitges, but as we are travelling on a Sunday, he has suggested it would be better to go by Train. Could you advise me whether the train travels straight from the airport to Sitges or would we have to change trains, also we are 2 adults and 2 children, is it an easy way to travel or would you suggest forgetting public transport, especially on a Sunday and go by taxi. The manager said he will meet us by the tourist office in Sitges and take us to the apartment.

many thanks for your advice.

Duty free shop at Alicante

Hi Dave,

Yes the duty free shop is open 24 hours at Alicante. I don't have a price catalogue and anyway the costs vary enormously depending on whether you purchase local wines and spirits or more well known brands (Rivas versus Gordons Gin for example).

We find that prices are lower in the supermarkets (you don't even have to go to a hypermarket) than at the duty free shops, and cigarettes cost less at the Spanish tobacconist shops.

Linda
Hi gary,
Is Alicante duty free shop open for24 hours? Can you give us some prices for spirits/wines?Is it cheper than the hypermarkets

Lost property at Girona Airport

There is a lost property number at Girona - 972 186 787 - who might be able to help you. Otherwise try the Aena (Spanish Airport Authority) helpline on 902 404 704.

Hope you manage to sort something out.

Linda

Hi!
I had a flight today (on the 24.07.2007) from Girona airport to Karlsruhe (Germany) with Ryanair at 10.35. I forgot one of my lugguages (an orrange bag and a big poster) just during the lugguage control of the gate 3. I tired to call the information number of the airport but they did not help me. Actually I have a friend living in Barcelona and will arrive there(to Girona airport) in one month. So, I need to know whether it is possible to keep this small bag somewhere there for one month. If not, is there any other way that they can send me this bag by cargo etc.
Thanks for help!
best wishes...

Go through customs

Shuttle to Terminal 4

Go to Iberia desk and get boarding pass

Go through security again.

Get to her Iberia gate.

She has a 3 hour lay-over but we're afraid the above

Ryanair flights to Almeria

Best regards,

Hi Sandra,

As far as I know all the winter timetables are now out, and Ryanair do seem to have cut some of their destinations this year (along with a number of other airlines), so I suspect the Dublin-Almeria route is one of the casualties.

Linda

Hi Gary,

I was wondering do you know if ryanair are continuing their flights from Dublin and London to Almeria this winter. They don't have a timetable up for any flights after 27th October, 2007 so I was wondering if they are still going to fly there.

Advance Passenger Information

Hi Jill,

This all seems a bit shambolic.

Very few airlines are allowing passengers to complete this information in advance (either online or manually) and there is no standard form because all the systems differ from flight operator to flight operator. If you follow this link it will get you to an article we have written on API http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/2007/07/advance-passenger-info_17.html

Linda

Hello Gary

We are going to Spain in August with Iberia and have heard a lot about
filling out the API. I cannot get any information from Iberia about this,
the last time I looked at their website there was absolutely nothing on
there about this, which I found strange as they are a Spanish carrier ?

When I eventually found somewhere on there to contact them I sent an email
(3 weeks ago) requesting information about filling this out in advance and
they didn't reply !

British Airways have the information on their home page.

Do you have any suggestions on how we can do this in advance ?

Thanks
