Trains in Spain Madrid to Ronda

I came across the useful information on your website.

We would like to travel (one way) from Madrid to Ronda by train, stopping for two nights in Cordoba.

Using the RENFE website I have found that there is a train leaving Madrid for Cordoba at 12.30. Then, two days later we, can take the 10.38 from Cordoba to Ronda.

My question is, can we book a through ticket from Madrid to Ronda instead of re-booking in Cordoba?

(In Britain a single ticket is normally valid for 3 days and allows for break of journey.)

Much obliged if you can help.

John Aughton

My Reply...

Hi John
Sounds like a great trip. We went to Cordoba (by car) a few weeks ago and really like the city, very safe, very nice and 2 days is about perfect.
I dont know about the situation with tickets BUT I would call them if you are in doubt, they speak English..

Private Transfers at Barcelona and Madrid Airport

We want to book an airport transport from Barcelona Airport to our hotel, and then from our hotel to Barcelona port.

We also want to book airport transport from Madrid Airport to our hotel, and then from our hotel back to the airport.

We will have two large luggage and possibly to small pieces as we are going on a cruise out of Barcelona. There is two of us.

Recommendations would be appreciated for the cheapest route to take---.. We would prefer to not do a bus or train. Taxi or private car..

Recommendation along with price estimate would be appreciated.

Thanks Cheryl

My Reply...

For private transfers from both airports we recommend the comapny on this page
http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/madrid-airport-transfers.html
You could also just get in a local taxi they have meters in them from both cities.

Transport from Bilbao Airport to Biarritz

Hi Gary

My partner and I are attending a wedding in Biarritz on 26th May 07. We are on quite a tight budget and looking at flights and it is much cheaper for us to fly into Bilbao than Biarritz. I have seen your post on the website that suggests hiring a car to get to Biarritz which is a possibility but I was wondering if you knew whether it was possible to get train(s) or bus(es) and whether this is likely to be any cheaper. We will be in Biarritz for 4 days.
Many thanks

My Reply...

Hi Alan
You will need to get the train into the main station Barcelona Sants, first..
Info here...

Then all timetables and fares etc can be found by going to this website, this is the #local# train line not the National, its fairly self explanetary.

Bomb at Madrid Terminal 4

I have read that damage has been done to a five-story parking garage due to a car bomb, supposibly by ETA. And Terminal 4 has been damaged as well? Well, I read the bombing was in December/January and I just want to know some more information. I am thinking of going to Spain.
Is Terminal 4 safe?
Is it repaired?
Was there any other damage of the airport?
Is it safe to travel to Spain??

Please, I would greatly appreciate it if my questions were answered. I really would like to visit Spain, but I just want to know a little more. I'll keep doing my research though.

Thank you so much,
Priya Baenen.

My Reply

Hi Priya
Its safe, the damage was not to the actual terminal building but the car park, BUT like any major city in the world keep your wits about you.
Over 40,000,000 people will use that airport this year.
I would not worry about the threat of terrorism

Flights Edinburgh to Menorca

Hi Garry,
I'm trying, rather unsuccessfully, to find a DIRECT flight from Edinburgh to Menorca (Minorca) early September.
Can you help?
Duration 7 days.
2 adults, one being semi-disabled thus necessitating a direct flight.
I'm not very good at Google searches so hope you can help.
Any thoughts about a hotel also appreciated .. must have ramp into swimming pool.
Await your response.
Regards
Claire

My Reply...

Hi Claire
There are not any low cost airlines like flyglobespan or easyjet that offer direct flights from Edinburgh.
The only flights are from charter companies so it may be worth going to your local travel agent.
You good also try first choice, tui those kind of companies who charter planes.
Good luck
Regards
Gary

A further request ... what other DIRECT flights are there to the Spanish coast from Edinburgh/
Haven't definitely decided on Minorca but will be influenced by flights .. and any hotels you can recommend.
Await your response.

Hi Claire
Hotels I cant recommend BUT for all direct flights just have a good look at this page

Luggage storage at Malaga Bus Station

Hi GaryWe are a family, and plan to travel from Malaga to Gatwick on a 10pm flight . We understand that the bus station has baggage storage facility. Can you advise us where in proximity to Malaga Airport the Bus terminal is, and if it would accommodate suitcases. Many thanksBrian

My Reply...

Hi Brian
I do not know if the bus station has storage facilities, unbelievably the airport does not!
The bus station is in the very center of Malaga, about a 20 minute bus ride *direct* from the bus station.
Here is a link to the bus stations website, it converts into English by clicking the flag.
Good luck and if you do find storage facilities there can you let me know.

Almeria Airport closed

Hi Gary
Do you know why Almeria airport has been closed today 22 March and all flights diverted to Granada? Hope you can help
Thank you
Sandy

My Reply...

Hi Sandy
I can find any information and wouldn-t know why it was closed.
How did you find out..
Regards
Gary

Hi Gary

Thanks for your reply. We found out because our son was flying to Almeria on that day and no-one had been told why the airport had been closed, so we were worried in case there had been an accident. But we found out later that apparently they had done some concreting on one of the runways and after one Monarch flight had landed and suffered some damage and later 2 other aircraft had the same problem, they realised that the concrete had not completely set!!! I may be old but I would have thought it was common sense to check before they let anything land!

Anyway thank you for trying to help. Meanwhile my son is having a wonderful holiday in Roquetas de Mar and is due home next Thursday. Let's hope Birmingham haven't decided to concrete the runway!

Changing terminals at Madrid

Hello.. I have just been reading horror stories about passengers' experiences with flight cancellations , lost luggage, poor directions, and other problems in the Madrid Airport.( terminal 4 and 4s) My husband , mother and I are flying from JFK to MAdrid and then to Barcelona(BCN) on June 12th and need to move from terminal B to terminal C in BCN to connect to our Bologna, Italy flight. We do not speak Spanish, and do not plan to check any luggage through, just take carry-on bags. Can you tell me how difficult it might be to make the changes from one terminal to the next? We are returning on the 21st of June to Madrid terminal 4 and must transfer to 4s.. the layover time is just 2h 15mins. Thank you so much..your webpage is most informative! Angie

My Reply...

Hi Angie,
I have never had any of those problems and all the signs are in English and Spanish.
To get from Terminal b to terminal C takes about 2 minutes...
Simply leave Terminal B after landing and terminal C is out through the exit and just on the right.
I am sure all will be ok and please do not worry too much.

Airports near Nerja

Looking for information
Hola Gary,
You live in my country and I live in yours, well, I live in Ireland, are you Irish or English?
Well, my consultation is this: I'm planning to go to Nerja (Málaga) around middle May, just for a long weekend. I have been searching flights to Malaga but they seem to be quite expensive traveling Friday to Monday and even Thursday to Sunday and to Málaga city.
As my final destination is Nerja, which airport do you recommend me to fly to; Jerez, Sevilla ..?? How far are those cities to Nerja. I will probably rent a car for those days but also (as I don't know the area) I would not like driving very long time.
Thank you for your help. I've found your web site very handy as well.
Gracias y un saludo,

My reply...

English Living in Spain!!!
Jerez No!.. you could but quite far. Would be about 3 hours driviing I think. Its 90 minutes from Marbella and Nerja is about another 90!
Seville you could get a train down on the RENFE or drive 2 hours.
Try looking at Granada Airport about 100km from Nerja although no direct flights. YOu could fly to Stanstead and then change. onto Ryan Air.
Flights are expensive at the weekend, have a look at www.thomsonfly.com too! Sometimes they are cheap.
Also have a look at www.googlemaps.com You can get good maps and routes.

Creo que te he ayudado!

buen viaje

One Way Rentals with Car Trawler

Hi Gary,

Appreciate all the info you've been able to collect on your website. I was interested in renting a car through your tie-in with Car Trawler; had a question that I couldn't find an answer to and thought I'd try to get in touch with you. I'm going to be doing a one-way rental from Malaga to Seville, the Terms and Conditions of the rental agreements mention that there might be a fee, but the only information I can find is to refer to the "One Way Rental Table". I can't find that table anywhere. Any thoughts as to where I could find these charges?

Thanks,

Where do I collect my Car Trawler Car

Hi Gary,
Based on your website quite keen to hire one of the cars from the link on 'Low cost hire in Palma' here
How was not too sure where the pick up of the rental car was from as the inforamtion below was not clear as to whether it is in the airport terminal or some distance outside the airport.
If you could kindly advise that would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

My Reply...

Hi Kay

The best thing to do is call Car Trawler and I am sure they will clear any questions up...

The phone numbers to our reservations office are:

Ireland 01 499 9600
USA 201 581 9019
Europe + 353 (0) 1 499 9600

From the look of it I would say that this is off airport and the hire company would have a shuttle bus that would take you to and from the terminal..

Car Trawlers email address should also be at the bottom of your confirmation email.

I hope that you have a great trip

Seville Airport to Estepona

Hi Gary can you tell me the best and most direct way to travel from Seville
Airport to Estepona
Kind Regards
Margaret

My Reply...

Hi Margaret

The best way is hire car, 2 hours 30 minutes.

Otherwise you need to get the bus from Seville to Marbella, Algerciras or Malaga and then get an Estepona bus from there.

Its tricky and a long way, the bus from Seville to Malaga runs 3 times per day 0800 & 1600 & 2000 and the journey takes 3 hours 30 minutes. There are then regular buses from Marbella back to Estepona and this would take around 45 mins.

The Bus Timetable is here

No trains!

If you haven-t booked yet it would be much easier to fly into Malaga then bus to Marbella and then bus to Estepona.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

We are landing at Valencia airport at 21:00 on 18th June and need to get to Gandia the same evening. I know I can get to Gandia from Valencia by train but how late do the trains operate? I cannot seem to get any details from the RENFE site! How long does it take to get from Valencia airport to the train station?

Many thanks

Hi Steve

Its a local train line thats why you are having problems, it-s not too clear...

But you can get all the info that you need here

If in doubt give them a call.

I would imagine its about 15 mins and 10 / 15 euros.

From Jerez Airport to Seville

Dear Gary,

I am hoping to stay in Seville in June, currently the best option of getting there for me is to fly to Jerez and get either a bus / train to Seville from there.. Do you have any idea if this is a lot of hassle, if it is costly and how long it would take etc?

Any help would be appreicatiated.

Edel Higgins

My Reply...

Hi Edel,
Its only about 40 minutes by car from Jerez to Seville. A taxi would be expensive... 50 euros.
Plenty of buses but difficult to get precise information, head for the main bus terminal from the airport and there should be a bus every hour or so. Cost no more than 5 / 10 euros.
Trains are also a good option, again you need to get from the airport to the main train station. Here is the website for the trains .. www.renfe.es.
Trains seem to run throughout the day and it costs between 5 / 15 euros.
Good luck

Smoking at Tenerife Airport

Hi Gary

We have recently returned from a holiday in Tenerife and very angry that Tenerife south airport had no designated smoking area after flying for nearly 5 hours it is not easy and we where disgusted that they still have the nerve to sell you cigarettes but will not provide an area to smoke them.I would like to know if this applies to everyone or just loyal passengers who return year after year and go nowhere else,or airport employees.I understand the reasons for doing what you have to do but the airport must also take into account how difficult it is for us smokers who have smoked for many years and the stress this causes not to mention how awful it looks outside huddled round bins like children. Our own airport in Manchester have thought of their passengers and have a sealed designated area which doesn't harm or offend anyone but is provided at least maybe they need to think long & hard about this as a lot of passengers I spoke with outside said they would not be returning to Tenerife. Please have a thought for smokers and not just non-smokers.

My Reply...

Im sorry for your distress of not being able to smoke but we are not the airport.

Reus Airport to Salou

Gary

I am flying into Reus on the afternoon of Sunday 01st April and need to get to the TopHotels Molinos Park in Salou. Ihave been advised that the taxi is fairly inexpensive €20-€25 for 2 of us or the bus at about €15. Which would you recommend as the best and most economical in terms of time and comfort.

Graham

My Reply...

from the map Reus Airport to Salou says its around 14km We normally work on around 1euro per km plus a little extra.

Me personally would jump straight into a taxi for that price and be there asap. Buses are cheap but you may have to wait a while as its sunday. The sooner you are at your hotel the sonner your holiday starts!

Security at Tenerife Airport and Smoking

Hi Gary
Can you tell me where I can find info about the security restrictions at Tenerife Airport? It's the hand luggage bit really, what you can and can't take - Italian airports differ from UK so we had a problem last year and would like to avoid problems in May.
Also, having read a previous post, what is the situation with regards to areas for smokers in the airport? Are there now any or is it a case of resorting to the t
