Use of ATMs in Spain

There are ATMs at Gran Canaria but most machines in Spain make a charge for withdrawing euros with a UK card (anything between GBP5-10). Whenever I have friends visiting here they always change their money in the UK or at a bank here as they seem to get a better rate.

I have been looking at the exchange rates from pounds sterling to euros and they are quite varying.



I do however have a Nationwide Visa Debit Card and have been told by someone that if I withdraw cash from an ATM whilst on holiday I will get a better rate of exchange and no charges from my bank. However will I be charged for using cash machines in Gran Canaria and are they readily available at the airport?



I am really looking forward to my holiday. We will be staying in Playa Del Ingles for a week in early December, my husband, myself and our 2 children aged 10 and 11, any tips on what not to miss would be really appreciated. Many thanks in advance,
