Getting from Madrid to Faro

Hi Tim,

If you are travelling with children I would fly, but as the only airline that operate flights from Faro to Madrid is Ryanair and as they stop running at the end of October it looks like you will have to either take the overnight train to Lisbon or a better alternative might be to get a train from Madrid to Seville - http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir130.jsp&O=MADRI&D=51003&AF=2007
&MF=MM&DF=DD&SF=NaN&ID=s and then a bus from Seville to Faro - http://www.faroairportguide.com/faro-to-seville.htm

There are no flights from Faro to Malaga over the winter months and the only way to get into Spain by public transport is by bus to Seville. Details at http://www.faroairportguide.com/faro-to-seville.htm
From Seville you can get another bus to Malaga - details at http://www.estabus.emtsam.es/

The good news is that you can either fly from Malaga to Madrid for the final leg of your journey with Spanair, Vueling, Iberia or Air Europa. Or get a train - details at http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/index.jsp?page=hjhir130.jsp&O=54413&D=MADRI&AF=2007
&MF=MM&DF=DD&SF=NaN&ID=s (this is the timetable for 2007 as the 2008 details are not yet available).

Because you are travelling over the Christmas period make sure you check all these timetables nearer the time, and if you decide to take the train you should book in advance.

Hope this is of some assistance.

Hi Gary-

We are trying to travel to Portugal and Spain in Dec/Jan. What is the easiest way from Madrid Airport to Faro? Are there cheap flights? I saw an overnight train that is 10 hours to Lisbon and then Faro for 3 more hours. (Dec 23 2007)

From Faro, we plan on working our way to Malaga. Then we need to get back to Madrid on Jan 11th.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. We can bus, train or fly. I have 6 people (3 adults and 3 kids) so low price is important, but not in exchange for heavy, hard traveling.

Thank you,

Tim
