Advance Passenger Information
It's called Advance Passenger Information (API) and basically it's an EU directive with Spain being the first country to adopt the new rules. It is already done for flights to the USA. If you have a passport with a bar code on the page with you photograph and details then all they need to do is to swipe this when you check in . Some airlines are requesting the information on line when you book. For more information follow this link: http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/2007/06/api-advance-passenger-information.html

New iformation suggests that travellers flying to Spain will need to give prior information to the booking agent before the flight, otherwise they will not be accepted. can you clarify.
