Wheelchair hire on the Costa del Sol
Dear Gary,
I have just sat and read many of the blogs on your site and have found them
very useful and informative as we are due to travel to Spain flying into
Malaga on the 4th September 07.
As I am registered disabled the information about wheelchairs etc was
particularly helpful - I'm thankful that I did advise the airline when
booking. However, although my request for information is not directly related to
Malaga airport, I would be grateful if you could help me.
Due to the size of our car it will be impossible to take our suitcases and
my wheelchair to Spain. As such I am looking to hire a wheelchair in Spain.
We will be staying in an apartment in Calahonda and it would be helpful if
we could hire a wheelchair from a place not too far away.
I would also be grateful if you could advise me if the major supermarkets
such as Carrefour have wheelchairs for customers to use whist shopping, as
many do at home.
Any help and assistance you can offer would be very much appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Karen Cresswell.
Hi Karen,
I'm afraid that the Spanish Supermarkets are not geared up for shoppers with special needs as they are in the UK and they do not provide wheelchairs. The best people to contact to hire a wheelchair in Calahonda are http://www.wheelchairhirespain.com/
Hope you enjoy your stay here.
Linda
Hi Linda,
Thank you so much for your speedy reply.
I've just had a look at the site you suggested and will probably hire a
wheelchair from them.
Eighteen months ago when we last visited the area I was relatively fit,
unfortunately since then my health has deteriorated and we are now having to
rethink how to make our holiday run smoothly, one of the problems being able
to find a nine seater people carrier which will allow for our families
suitcases and wheelchair - not as easy as one would think !
I've spent about an hour this afternoon trying to translate the Spanish
descriptions of the customer services the supermarkets offer with no
success, so I'm really grateful for your help.
Thank you for your assistance in what is now uncharted territory for us. If
we get stuck with any other problems I would grateful if I could come back
to you.
Many Thanks,
Karen.
