Car hire at Barcelona

The journey from the station to the airport is a 9km journey and takes about 40 minutes. There is a choice of three charter buses Or you can get a taxi which will cost you about €15.

We are arriving on a train from Barcelona into Alicante on a Saturday afternoon.We have tried to hire a car from the train station to use for the rest of our holiday but have been told the car hire office shuts at 13.00.My question is,how far is it from the train station to Alicante airport and is it an easy journey,by bus or taxi ? We think it will be easier to hire a car from the airport to return to the airport when we fly home.
