I've just tried tiknet on the RENFE website and it's working now. It's the peak time so you might just have picked the wrong time to book, and at this time of the year everything in Spain (airports, trains and taxis) are either engaged or don't answer the phone. I'm afraid perseverance is the only way as you need to book through this site!
