Connecting flights, check in times and travelling between terminals at Madrid

Thanks so much for the help. I feel much better now!

Hi Caroline,

First of all, because you are cutting it so fine even if you can check your luggage right through at Dublin I wouldn't risk it, because the chances of it getting from one plane to another in the time available are a bit slim. I would just take hand luggage. You can get a large range of toiletries, sun tan lotion, etc, in Ibiza at very good prices so I would leave all that till you get there.

I would say that if your flight to Madrid is delayed you have a real problem, but otherwise you should be able to do it in the hour. The terminals at Madrid airport are linked by buses and you'll see signs to the "connecting flight bus transit centre" in the baggage reclaim halls 1 and 2 of Terminal 1. A bus from here will take you straight to T4 flight connecting hall where you can go straight through to security and the departure lounge for your flight if you are checked right through. It's a large international airport which is very well designed enable passengers to get around quickly.

The good news is that you are on such an early flight from Dublin and at that time of day they are more likely to operate on time.

Hope I've managed to allay your fears slightly and that it all goes OK.

Linda
Hi there,

I am a single mum travelling from Ireland to Ibiza with three children on July 22 which is coming up fast...

Our outward bound flight is on Aer Lingus, from Dublin (on 22 July) is at 6am and gets in to Madrid (Terminal 1) at 9am. I thought I had left
myself plenty of time for catching a plane departing from Terminal 4 (on Iberia Airlines) to Ibiza at 12noon. Unfortunately I forgot that the time
difference is one hour ahead for Europe so it is actually 10am when we arrive into Madrid. We then have to transfer to Terminal 4 for a check
in at 11am for onward travel to Ibiza which is really tight.

I called up and spoke to a helpful lady at the airport and she told me that because I have become a member of Iberia Plus I can check us all in at
Dublin for the entire journey including transferring at Madrid which speeds up things a little. Also we could only bring hand baggage as we will not
have time to collect luggage (unless we can check that right through at Dublin also? Which would be fantastic as we are going for ten days!).

I tried to change the flights leaving Madrid a day after but there are no flights to Ibiza on Iberia available so unless I buy new tickets on another airline,
it is not going to work, which works out too expensive for four people...

My question is can you tell me exactly where we go when we get off the plane at terminal 1 - to travel in the fastest route possible to terminal 4 as I am
terrified that I will miss the flight with the kids and we will be stuck in Madrid.

Please help!

Many thanks

Caroline
