Law on child seats in Spain

Hi Emma,

Thought I had better check my understanding was up to date on this and found an excellent website http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/ which for Spain states: Child Restraints: Children are prohibited from travelling in the front seat until the age of 12 years, unless an approved child restraint is used.

Seat BeltsThe use of seat belts is compulsory for all vehicle occupants.

There is no law regarding actual car seats, so you will be OK as long as they travel in the back and wear seat belts.

Regards

Linda

What is the law in relation to children having car seats in spain ? Is it as strict as uk? I have 7yr old, 5 yr old and 4 yr old and would rather not take booster or hire seats if I don't have to?

Regards
Emma

I notice that the comment on the website referred to, is dated 2005. Is the law still saying car seats are not necessary ?

Good point, I am 99.9% sure that it is NOW COMPULSORY for children to be in car seats.

The only exception to this would be taxis (as in the UK)

Reference booster seats, they are for children between 3 and 12 years old who are under 150 cm tall. If the child is younger than 12 but they are over 150 cm, they do not need this sort of seat.

I hope this helps.
