Getting from Marbella to Portugal
Hi Fiona,
Afraid you are right and there are no direct flights from Malaga to Faro. The only flights they operate from Spain are from Madrid or Girona (both with Ryanair) which you can connect to via Malaga. The drive from Marbella to Val do Lobo will take about 5 hours (its a 475km drive), but the roads are pretty good all the way. The only car hire companies that will allow a pick up in Spain and drop off in Portugal are the larger ones like Hertz or Avis, which I suspect will be expensive. But it's worth getting a quote at www.hertz.es or www.avis.es The only other way I can think of doing this journey is to get the bus from Marbella bus station to Seville www.ctsa-portillo.com and then get another bus from there www.eva-bus.com Or you can get a train to Seville from Malaga www.renfe.com and then get the bus.
Hope you manage to sort something out.
Linda
Dear Gary
I need to get from Puerto Banus, Mabella to Val do Lobo, Algarve, Portgual this August. Firstly, can you please confirm that there are no directflights from Malaga to Faro? If this is the case, what is the best way toget there. I thought of going Alicante to Faro but the drive to Alicante is nearly 5 hours. Are we better driving directly from Marbella to Val do Loboand, if so, how long will this take us? Also, do you know of any cheap hirecar companies that will accommodate. Rates we have looked at make this trip extremely expensive. We will be hiring a car for the 2 weeks we are inMarbella. Are there any companies that would allow us to drive to Val doLobo and leave the car at a local office there?
Many thanks Fiona
