Disabled & Wheelchairs at Palma Airport

Hi Gary

Re palma PMI, I was there in october 2005 and again in april 2006. On the first time my wife needed assistance on our departure she could walk but not very far. They took us to the departure gate on an electonic buggy after a long wait and walk to the check in i asked the clerk if a chair was available for my wife as she had pain in her feet.

The clerk gave my wife her chair to sit on untill she aranged the the lift to the departure gate whist on the electric buggy the driver asked me to hang onto the wheelchairs he was towing which i did,but on the next visit to Palma Airport in October we had booked assistance
required hoping for the same lift from our arrival gate to the lugage collection point,
Thomsonfly sent Palma the message as we checked in at Doncaster,we asumed that all was done on our behalf, but when we arrived we waited behind the rest of the passengers as they departed the aircraft so we were the last off the plane, we expected a wheelchair for my wife to be available outside the plane there was not, so we walked to the top of the tunnel from the plane to the main walkway and waited for about half an hour, by this time we were the only people at that point as my daughter and her son had gone ahead thinking we were being given assistance. So after a while we decided to try and walk thinking the buggy may just be late and we would meet it if we set off walking after we got to the end of the second walkway travelator my wife had a fall and hurt her foot on the travelator, i am also disabled so i could not pick her up myself but other passengers were now coming from other arrival gates and gave me some help with my wife enabling her to get up and take a rest on a seat nearby,
anyway that wrecked our holliday as my wife's foot swelled and bruised we had to hire a w/chair when we got to the hotel,

The point is that i did not see one wheelchair in the airport and so we had some trouble getting to the check in desk and also to the buggy station or toilets.

We are going again next week and now we have our own w/chair and i am trying to get some info re the departing side of the airport and own w/chair's check in ect , i am waiting for a reply from Palma as i type as it may be pointless taking it if we cant use it to get to our gate, i'm sorry gary for a long message but does any one have the info i need,

But there aint no wheelchair's or wasn't in october 2006,, disabled be warned,,,
hope this is usefull to others,,

Regards

Brian Rhodes
