Almeria to Hotel in Nerja

Hello, can you help? We are arriving at Almeria airport at 9pm with 2 small children. We don't know whether to hire a car that night and drive to our hotel in Nerja or whether we would be better advised to stay a night somewhere near the airport and tackle the journey in the morning.

If we drive to Nerja straight away, approx how long is the journey likely to be? If we decide to stay near the airport is there anywhere you would recommend? Also, is there a car hire company at Almeria airport that is better than the rest and likely to be open at 9 - 10pm on a Thursday night? Or, is there an airport hotel that is easy to reach where we can hire a car in the morning?

Sorry for all these questions. We would prefer to head straight to Nerja, but think it might be too far???

From memory Almeria to Nerja is about 1.5 to 2 hours and a straight road BUT there is a new toll road open and I am not sure what difference this has made to the time, its not that far in kms and the new toll road could have halved the time.

Most of the car hire companies will be open, 10pm is not late in Spain! We recommend Car Trawler for all car hire...

If it were me ( and I have a 3 year old!) I would drive straight to Nerja!
