Alicante to Lorca, Murcia
Hi Gary
My Mum and I are planning on staying in the province of Lorca in Murcia, in
June for 10th - 16th at a health retreat.
We can fly to either Alicante or San Javier (Murcia?) from Leeds/Bradford,
as i'm led to believe that the place we are staying is approx the same
distance from either.
My concern is how to get to the house we are staying at. How much would a
taxi cost - looking on the map it's a 2 hour journey approx 145km. Or would
a hire car be cheaper?? We don't need transport at all once we get to the
house, but would need to get back to the airport on the Saturday. Neither my
Mum nor I are overly keen on driving in Spain as we don't speak Spanish and
have no sense of direction and would worry we'd get lost. Do they drive on
the other side of the road too? Last time I came to Spain I was on a package
holiday as a kid, so please pardon my ignorance.
all help greatly apeciated as we need to book flights soon, but I'm not sure
the best course of action, or airport!
Many Thanks
S

Hi S
Hmm difficult one!
Driving is the best way in terms of price BUT you have to feel confident! (and we drive on the other side!)
If you are driving Alicante may be the easier airport to fly into as its a straight drive along one main Dual Carriageway/Motorway to Lorca. Murcia isnt that difficult but will require some map reading!
There is one train per day from Alicante to Lorca, it leaves Alicante Town Train Station at 2024 each evening and gets to Lorca at 2250, costs are about 20 euros each. You would of course need to get a cab from Alicante Airport to the train station.
Taxis and Transfers wont be cheap BUT they will be the easiest way! Expect to pay about 150 - 175 euros each way!
For Private transfers the best prices will be through Shuttle Direct, they dont have Lorca as a destination on their website but you can call them and talk in English on (international +34) 902.33.46.33, they pick up at Alicante or Murcia.
I hope all goes well, let us know how you get on
Regards
Gary
