Trains from Malaga to Granda

On Fri Nov 24 11:04 , 'Fred G Kells' sent:
Hi Gary. Been trying to find about trains from Malaga to Granada, been on the RENFE site but no luck. What is the solution.
Thank's Fred

My Reply

You would need to go somewhere in between Malaga and Cordoba (Bobadilla) and then change, best to call them (they speak english) and ask or you have to put a SPECIFIC date in when asking for a timetable on the website.

You could also try the bus: www.alsa.es, (you can put site into english) every hour, 2 hour journey and costs about €9

Good luck

Santiago de Compostela to Sarria

On Thu Nov 16 13:55 , 'F & S Nilsen' sent:

Hi Gary,
I will be flyning into Lavacolla and want to get to Sarria to start walking the camino (without going to Santiago city first) and want to know if there is a bus to Sarria from the airport.
Thanks for your help,
Syl

MY REPLY

Hi Syl

There is only a limited bus service from Santiago De Compostela Airport so I am pretty aure that you would need to go into the main city center bus station and change there for a buc to Sarria. (Airport Bus Info)

You will find four different buses at Santiago de Compostela:

Airport - Lujo

runs throughout the day from 0700 - 1930

Airport to Santaigo Center

runs every 30 - 40 mins

Airport to Santiago (Doctor Teixeiro line)

runs every 30 - 60 mins

Airport to A Coruna

Just one bus per day which leaves at 1130 am

The best place to get answers to your kind of question is at the forum for the Camino, I am sure that someone there will be able to help you and give an exact answer.

I hope all goes well

Hi Frances

It may be best to get the direct bus from the north airport to the south and then get to Costa Adeje from there.

Here is the info on the buses between the two airports

I would also ask someone on the following forum, I am sure one of the members will know the answer.

Cigarettes at Almeria Airport

Could you give me a rough idea of the price for 1000 Lambert and Butler cigarettes bought at Almeria airport, also do they sell them in 1000's or only in 200's. Have searched on the internet but cannot find a price list for duty free for Almeria anywhere.

Many thanks
Jen

My Reply

Hi Jen

I am a non smoker but my smoking mum tells me that Lambert & Butlers normally cost between €33 and €37 at the airports. (per 200)

Almeria is not a big airport so you may be better buying them at a tobacconist before you go to the airport to make sure you get Lamberts!

Good luck

Malaga Airport to Puerto Banus driving

On Fri Nov 3 8:43 , sent:

Hi Gary
I am looking for an idiots guide to traveling by hired car to Puerto Banus from Malaga Airport.
Bit nervous about this as never driven in Spain before.
We are staying at Melia Dinimar Hotel in Puerto Banus which has a reputation of being difficult to locate, however if we can get to Puerto Banus that will be a bonus!

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Regards
Les Forbes

MY REPLY

Hi Les

Good choice of hotel, nice location, on the beach and 5 mins from Puerto Banus!

OK I took this off the website I have for one of my apartments (www.lamaestranza.eu), this gets you to Puerto Banus. I dictated it as I drove so I knwo that it works!

THIS LINK SHOWS YOU ON A MAP EXACTLY WHERE THE HOTEL IS!

Leave the airport and at the first roundabout take the second exit, this passes the San Miguel Brewery on the right hand side, stay in the right lane, the road drops and is signed N340 Torremolinos, Cadiz. Continue on this road for 2.5k, stay in right hand lane and take the exit signed E15, A7, N340 Benalmadena Algeciras. Stay on this road for 14k. After 14k the road splits to a toll road (A7). Stay on the left to continue on the toll road and watch for Peage signs on the road surface and a flashing sign A7.

When you have gone through the toll (approx €5) continue for about 20 minutes until you will see Mc Donalds on the left hand side and a huge shopping complex La Canada on the right hand side. Continue for 5k, stay in the right hand lane as the road will split, the left fork is the toll road to Cadiz. The right fork drops into a tunnel, both roads are signed Estapona, Algeciras. Take the road through the tunnel. In 3k the first exit appears 175, Marbella, Puerto Banus, Istan.

Continue past this exit and stay in the right hand lane. You will see a shell garage on the right hand side and El Corte Ingles shopping centre on your left. Take the next exit (no number) signed Nueva Andalucia , Puerto Banus.

TOP TIP

The road for the hotel has its on exit off the dual carriageway the only trouble is you pass it on the wrong side of the road, you need to come off the dual carriageway as above, go under the dual carriageway, rejoin the dual carriageway (opposite direction) and then take the second exit, it comes up quick! no more than 300m and is by a bus stop!

Good luck and hope that you have a great time.

Disabled Facilities at Lanzarote Airport

On Thu Nov 2 13:56 , 'Hazel Budd' sent:

Hi Gary - We are going to Lanzarote for Christmas and I would like to know the distance from the plane arrival point to baggage reclaim. We recently went to Malaga Airport and I found it really exhausting walking from the plane to baggage reclaim - I am 76 and would have used one of the transport buggies had I known it was so far. (None of the automatic walkways were working on that day) Are there transport buggies or busses at Lanzarote? Many thanks for your time.

MY REPLY

Hi Hazel

I have been to many of the airports and so can normally give you "first hand" advice. Malaga for example is my home airport and I would have told you 100% to get on the buggy!

Unfortunately Lanzarote is one of those airports that I have yet to personally visit. What I can say is this.....

At ll the airports that I have travelled to and through in Spain there is always someone on hand with a buggy or bus waiting to take older or disabled passengers to the luggage area.

I am keen to get this kind of information for less abled passengers on to our website but written by people who have used the facilties. So if you could write to me after you have travelled it would help other travellers with the same questions.

You could also try posting your question on this forum I am sure that someone there will know!

http://www.canaryforum.com/forums/index.php

Good luck Hazel and sorry I can't help and further at this stage.

New Baggage Restrictions At Spanish Airports

This has just been posted at the Spanish Airport Authoritys' Website. It is identical to an email that I recieved from BA this morning...

New EU security rules at airports. Information for passengers

A BRIEF GUIDE TO HELP YOU

To protect you against the new threat of liquid explosives, the European Union (EU) has adopted new security rules that restrict the amount of liquids that you can take through security checkpoints. They apply to all passengers departing from airports in the EU whatever their destination.

This means that, at security checkpoints, you and your hand luggage must be checked for liquids in addition to other prohibited articles. However, the new rules do not limit the liquids that you can buy at shops located beyond the point where you show your boarding pass or on-board an aircraft operated by an EU airline.

The new rules apply from Monday, 6th. November 2006 at all airports in the EU and in Norway, Iceland and Switzerland until further notice.

WHAT IS NEW?

While packing

You are only allowed to take small quantities of liquids in your hand luggage. These liquids must be in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100 millilitres each. You must pack these containers in one transparent, re-sealable plastic bag of not more than one litre capacity per passenger.

Liquids include:

  • - Water and other drinks, soups, syrups

  • - Creams, lotions and oils

  • - Sprays

  • - Gels, including hair and shower gels

  • - Contents of pressurised containers, including shaving foam, other foams and deodorants

  • - Pastes, including toothpaste

  • - Liquid-solid mixtures

  • - Mascara

  • - Any other item of similar consistency

  • At the airport
  • To help screeners detect liquids, you must:

    - Present all liquids carried to the screeners at security checkpoints for examination

    - Take off your jacket and/or coat. They will be screened separately whilst you are screened

    - Remove laptop computers and other large electrical devices from your hand luggage. They will be screened separately whilst you are screened.

    WHAT DOES NOT CHANGE?

    You can still:

    - Pack liquids in bags that you check-in - the new rules only affect hand luggage

    - Carry in your hand luggage medicines and dietary requirements, including baby foods, for use during the trip. You may be asked for proof that they are needed

    - Buy liquids such as drinks and perfumes either in an EU airport shop when located beyond the point where you show your boarding pass or on-board an aircraft operated by an EU airline.

If they are sold in a special sealed bag, do not open it before you are screened – otherwise the contents may be confiscated at the checkpoint. (If you transfer at an EU airport, do not open the bag before screening at your airport of transfer, or at the last one if you transfer more than once).

All these liquids are additional to the quantities in the re-sealable plastic bag mentioned above.

If you have any doubts, please ask your airline or travel agent in advance of travel.

Please be courteous and co-operate with airport security and airline staff.

    www.mediterranean-holidays.citymax.com where are they?

I have booked and paid for an airport transfer from alicante airport to benidorm with the above named company, i paid through paypal and my flights have now changed but i have been trying to contact the company now for over a month but their phones lines are dead and they are not replying to emails, i have written to them but they have not replied.

have you heard of this company, am i fighting a losing battle?

    their website is mediterranean-holidays.citymax.com

    Regards

    Janet Keach

    MY REPLY

    Hi Janet

Thats upsetting to say the least!!! I have never heard of them but companies are springing up all over the place.

The Spanish numbers on their website are MOBILES and as you say are not working, I called the UK number and got an answerphone.

I even ran a check on their website to see who owns it becuase it's a strange Domain name (http://www.mediterranean-holidays.citymax.com) what this name means is that the company Mediterranean Holidays is just a small site on a much larger website that offers website building and hosting at cheap rates.

Kind of like a small room in massive office block!

As an example if my site was there it would be www.spanish-airport-guide.citymax.com......

The main company where the site is hosted is: http://www.citymax.com/

I dont think you will get any information there.

All in all cheap website hosting, Spanish Mobiles and Paypal make me think that they have set up on the cheap and shut down again. I feel sorry for you because their website looks the part!

In my opinion your only re-course is through Paypal, I would try them. Last year I purchased something using Paypal, it never turned up, I complained to paypal and got my money back.

Although this is of little consilation there are pretty good bus routes from Alicante to Benidorm (see here) and for SAFE and SECURE online booking of another airport transfer I would try www.shuttledirect.com or Transfer Store,

Both companies are part of much larger organisations and we recommend both of them. Transfer Store is mainly for English Travellers and is part of Alpharooms Hotels and Shuttle Direct are part of a Spanish Travel Company and have some really good transfer deals.

Let me know if you get anywhere and I have added this post to the message board to see if anyone else has any problems or knowledge.

Good luck and don't let it ruin your holiday

    Regards

    MORE BAGGAGE STRIKES

For the second time in a matter of weeks Ryanair is warning passengers with tickets to a number of Spanish airports that strike action could affect baggage services.

Spanish baggage handlers plan to stop work on November 6, 13 and 20 at the airports in Girona, Reus, Jerez, Seville, Santiago, Almeria, Granada, Murcia, Valencia, Zaragosa, Santander and Vitoria.

Earlier this month similar strike action saw restrictions on the amount of luggage people could check in as unions clashed with Ryanair over working conditions.

In a statement Ryanair has said it "fully complies with all applicable Spanish labour law" and puts the blame for the disruption on the shoulders of union leaders, who it claims are using the stoppages as a way to protect less competitive airlines.

Ryanair said: “If this possible strike action goes ahead a contingency plan will be put in place which should allow Ryanair flights to and from these airports to operate on these days.

“However, we cannot guarantee that baggage handling facilities will be available and consequently we may be unable to accept checked baggage on all flights to and from the above airports on these dates.

“We recommend that all passengers travelling with hand baggage only check-in online to minimise disruption.”

For passengers checking in hand luggage via the internet, Ryanair is reminding people that there is a maximum weight of 10kgs, with dimensions no greater than 55cmx40cmx20cm.

Ryanair has said it will update its website with the latest news on the planned strikes.
