Buying perfume at Alicante Airport

On Tue Aug 29 16:28 , MThomas sent:

Gary,
Could you help me with this one, my wife bought 3 bottles of perfume from the duty free shop in Alicante airport. 2 bottles contained perfume and the 3rd was virtually empty.
We didn't check at the time, I'm woundering is there an email address or contact details.
I have attached some photos of the perfume, etc.
Thanks in advance for the help and assistance very much appreciated
Mark Thomas
MY REPLY

Hi Mark

The shop (Aldeasa) don't publish their email addresses (not untypical of Spain!) but here are 2 telephone numbers for the shop at Alicante Airport:

0034 965 680 538 or 0034 965 680 575

I hope you are able to resolve the problem but I fear that you won't get very far, in my experience Customer Services on these kind of issues are not the same as in the UK, but it is still worth you trying.

It would be interesting to hear from you to see how this progresses and I am adding this thread to the main message board today.

Out of interest was the 3rd bottle in a sealed box or not?

A bad day at Murcia Airport

On Fri Aug 25 15:39 , 'Brian Hunter' sent:

Hi Gary,
As a recent visitor to Murcia airport, I feel the need to sound off a little about the services provided there. I went to the airport to collect my brother on a Belfast flight which was delayed due to the recent security scare. I had to wait 60 minutes in the airport so I went to the Merlia shop to buy a newspaper at 10am. The notice on the window stated back in 5 minutes as the girl was counting the papers. I waited until 10.20am when the girl came out of the shop and told me she would be back in 5 mins.At 10.45 she still hadn't come back so I went outside and saw her chatting and having a smoke. I think it's ridiculous that this shop should close for 5 minutes never mind over 45 mins.
When I was departing for home, I was also disappointed to see the same shop doesn't even open up until after 9am! I went into the departure lounge to find that the restaurant facilities are practically non existant. This is supposed to be an international airport!! Not impressed.
Brian Hunter
MY REPLY

Hi Brian

Thanks for your email, I am going to put this up on the site tomorrow as a warning to other travellers to make sure that they know what to expect.

Over the next few years a new airport should be constructed in Murcia as the old one is way to inadequate to deal with the needs of todays travellers. Public transport is also virtually non existant!

With regards to the opening of the shop.......this is one of the frustrating things about living in Spain!!!!

Hope you have a better experience on next years holidays

MY REPLY

Hi Brigid,

You need to get a taxi / bus into Valladolid RENFE train station and then get a train from Valladolid into Leon,

You can get the timetables here in English - Trains Valladolid to Leon

Once in Leon there are buses that run hourly throughout the day upto Astorga

Here is a link to the timetables for the buses, the last one is at 2130 so you should have plenty of time

http://www.astorga.com/transportes%20publicos%20en%20astorga.htm#BUSES

I can see that there is a train station in Astorga but can't find out about the trains there, it may be worth you calling RENFE and just checking that there are not any train connections. You can call them on 0034 902 24 02 02.

Hope this helps and all goes well

Jerez Airport to Mijas Costa

On Sun Aug 27 0:03 , 'claire sweeney' sent:

Hello Gary,
we are honeymooning in Riviera del sol, Mijas costa, how would you suggest
we get there from jerez airport? we didn't realise it was so far away and
were hoping to get a taxi, it'd cost 150 euros !
we don't drive !
many thanks, Claire.

MY REPLY

Hi Claire

Wow thats a bit of a pain!!! Ia ssume your flying Ryanair from Stansted?

BAD NEWS FIRST!

Ok my best advice is to either cancel the flights or move them to another trip or move them to Granada where it is still a pain BUT easier to get down to Malaga and onto Mijas, then just book new tickets (Ryanair dont fly to Malaga) but try easyjet (from Stansted) and have a very easy transfer to Riviera. (€30 taxi ride)

OR

Accept that the transfer will be an adventure in itself and fly into Jerez!

OK here goes.....

The easiets way is to get a bus / taxi into Jerez Train station (€20 taxi) and then get a train from Jerez to Malaga, you will need to change in Seville but should be easy enough, the trains will cost about €16-€20 and the whole journey should be about 4 hours. Once at Malaga get the train to Fuengirola (every 15 mins and cheap) then get a taxi to Riviera (€15)

The train website in English is here and If i were you I would call them to confirm times etc, they have an International number on the website but dont forget to add 0034 in front!

Trains website

Or

Call this english guy who lives in Riviera and ask him how much he would charge for a pick up in Jerez, tell him you came via me and I am sure he will do the best price possible but €150 would be about right!

Call Bedford on: 0034 932 939 583 or 0034 697 442 339

OR

You need to get the bus or a taxi into Jerez Bus Station and then a bus to Marbella, I am not too sure if after it leaves Marbella it goes past Riviera on its way to Malaga (ask the driver!) but

There is only one bus per day between Jerez and Marbella: It leaves Jerez at 1530 in the afternoon and takes about 4 hours once at Marbella Bus Station you need to get the bus from Marbella to Fuengirola and get off at Riviera OR get a taxi from Marbella to riviera which will be about €30.

Failing that you need to get a bus from the Airport to Cadiz where there are 3 buses to Marbella / Malaga per day

0900 / 1500 / 2000

and the same advice as above.

I hope this all works out for you and for me the train sounds like fun and the best, cheapest option, if you arrive late a night in Seville is also a serious GREAT alternative and will add something extra to your honeymoon!

Reus to Cambrils

On Sat Aug 26 13:40 ,

Hi there, could you help,we arrive at Reus airport at 9.30am and need to get to Cambrills.is there a bus or a a train we can get.Thanks.Alison.
MY REPLY

Hi Alison

Its about 25kms between Reus Airport and Cambrils

The buses at the airport run in time with the flights (it's not a busy airport) and there is a bus between Reus Airport and Cambrils at 10am. (I am sure it will wait if the plane is 15 mins late!)

Failing that you can get a taxi into Cambrils and expect to pay about €35 each way.

You can book your own private transfers here:

Reus to Cambrils Transfers

The only trains that run DIRECT are from Tarragona to Cambrils. You would need to get a bus or taxi in to Tarragona (€20) and then there are trains every 40 minutes or so. The train journey is only 15 mins and costs about €1.50

Left luggage at Asturias Airport

Wondered if you could help me with the following question. I am flying to Asturias airport next Saturday (2nd) and would like to be able to leave a bag there in a locker, if at all possible, as I am flying onward from there in a week's time and would prefer not to have to lug all my baggage around Northern Spain with me. Is there any ability to store a small bag there, do you know, or have security concerns meant that this is not possible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and in the meantime, thank you for your work in compiling the Spanish Airport Guide,

Easyjet flights in Spain

Looks like we could be enjoying lower priced internal Spanish Flights from next February..

Low-cost airline easyJet is to set up a southern European base at Madrid airport.

Barajas Airport will be easyJet’s 17th base and the first in Spain. Operations are set to start on February 16, 2007 with several brand new routes.

EasyJet began operating from Barajas in 1998 and is now the fourth largest airline, and the largest low-fares operator, to fly from the Spanish capital.

Andy Harrison, easyJet chief executive, said: “While Madrid is one of Europe’s largest and most important capital cities, it is still underserved by low-fares airlines.

“easyJet’s new base will make Madrid much more accessible for international visitors and will offer Spanish consumers low cost with care and convenience.”

This announcement from easyJet will be seen as a challenge to the Spanish flag carrier, Iberia, who launched its own budget service Clickair a few weeks ago.

Spain is already easyJet’s second largest market, behind the UK, with more than seven million passengers in 2005. The airline currently offers nine international routes from Madrid, including London, Bristol and Liverpool.

Getting from Zaragoza to Castellon

Hi gary,

I'm heading to Zaragoza from London Stansted this Tuesday ( 22/8) at 13.55 ( in theory !! ) with my 2 young daughters and would like to get some details on how best to get to Castellon either by train or bus, times of trains/buses and fares please.

Thank-you

Mike Paterson

MY REPLY

Hi Mike

Long Journey!! 320kms....(220 miles)

Valencia or even Tarragona would have been much better but I assume it was too expensive or no seats left.

There is a bus from Zaragoza to Castellon BUT you have to get the bus or taxi from the airport into the City bus terminal first. The buses from the airport run in conjuntion with the flights so they should be there after you land. It may be better to just jump in a taxi and head for the bus station.

All bus info including timetables and fares can be found here (click the flag for english), its a long journey, about 6 hours.

http://www.movelia.es/default.asp

The train journey should be a little quicker but you will need to change, either at Barcelona or Valencia, as I am not sure which route is best for you I think it would be wiser for you to call the train company, they have an International booking department who speak english and they are on this number...

Cheapest I could find on the 4 on your list is Amigoautos £76.15 for 2 days which seems very expensive for a compact.

Is there a bus service that could get 2 of us to the area ?

€10.65 each return, journey 45 mins

You then need to get to the Oviedo local train station where you can get a local train up to Mieres..

about 23 mins and a few euros.

Getting from Reus Airport to Vinaros

Hello, I would welcome your suggestions about possible ways from Reus
airport to vinaros. There will be 7 of us in total including one infant.
Travelling on 22 August arriving at reus at approx 0830 and returning on 29
august 2300 hrs. We have considered car hire but also taxi and train.

Many thanks, J Mortlock

MY REPLY

Hi Julie

Ok here goes....

You would need two taxis as there are 7 of you....each way its 105 kms so expect to pay €125 per taxi each way.

Private transfers are a good option, your meet in arrivals and all travel in a minibus together, the company we recommend; Shuttle Direct are quoting €607 for the return journey (425 pounds roughly!). You can get your own quote here...

Shuttle Direct.

Car hire is a good option but I just checked our car hire and they are out of 9 seaters, they have a couple of 7 seater Renualt Espaces left. (luggage could be a problem), the quotes for this are €425 for the week. You can get your own quote here....

Reus Airport Car Hire

The cheapest route but the most hassle is to get the bus or taxis from Reus airport into Tarragona train Station, €15-20 per taxi. Then get the train down to Vinaros. Tickets are about €6.25 each for the 1056 train. Follow this link for the train site in English, you need to choose Vinaros from the list as your destination. (please note there are not any trains from Reus to Vinaros)

Trains from Tarragona

It would be great to hear from you after the journey to see how you got on and which way you choose, that way we can help other people with the same sort of questions.

Vitoria Airpot to Roncesvalles (Camino)

Hi,

I am flying into Vitoria Airport next March on a Saturday about 15:30 from London and need to get to Roncesvalles to begin the Camino. Can you advise me of how to travel by bus to Roncesvalles, where I would get connections and if I would need to stay overnight on Saturday night before travelling on.

Regards

Vivien Buckley

MY REPLY

Hi Vivien

This one stumped me so I reffered it to my freind, Dave Bubier whose reply is below

Saturday is decidely not the best day to arrive for this journey! Whether there are yet any buses serving Vitoria airport remains unknown, there has been talk recently, so it may be necessary to take a taxi into the city centre. From thence you need to get to Pamplona, either by bus (fairly frequent, but possibly less so on a Saturday evening) or take the train.
Then the problems start, the next bus (www.montanesa.com) to Roncesvalles is at 1800 on Monday (the previous one left at 1600 on Saturday afternoon)! The Spanish Ministerio de Fomento is working on providing more bus routes from Madrid, etc, to the Camino border crossing starting points at Arneguy and Roncesvalles, but that may be a year or more away yet. In this particular instance it may be necessary to arrange something and I can do no better than refer you to the www.caminosantiago.com who include links to organisers of individual transport especially tailored for pilgrims.

Hope this helps.

Good luck Vivien

Please could you let me have an idiots guide (Map would be wonderful) of how to get

Given the new restrictions of hand-luggage could you tell me what shopping facilities exist in Valladolid airport after security, especially for gifts, books, newspapers and toys.
Many thanks,

MY REPLY

Hi Daniel,

Valladolid is a small airport, it only serves about 440,000 passnegers per year, compare this to say Southampton in England - another small airport - which serves 1.5 million people per year! and you get some idea.

You will only find a small "Multi Shop" a Valladolid airport selling a limited range of items, enough to get you through your flight but it's not like a shopping mall.

I believe that they are now selling English newspapers due to the amount of passenegsr being brought in by the Ryanair flights.

If when you get there thiongs a radically different can you let me know, it's difficult to keep abreast of all the chnages at all the airports here in Spain
