MORE BAGGAGE STRIKES

For the second time in a matter of weeks Ryanair is warning passengers with tickets to a number of Spanish airports that strike action could affect baggage services.

Spanish baggage handlers plan to stop work on November 6, 13 and 20 at the airports in Girona, Reus, Jerez, Seville, Santiago, Almeria, Granada, Murcia, Valencia, Zaragosa, Santander and Vitoria.

Earlier this month similar strike action saw restrictions on the amount of luggage people could check in as unions clashed with Ryanair over working conditions.

In a statement Ryanair has said it "fully complies with all applicable Spanish labour law" and puts the blame for the disruption on the shoulders of union leaders, who it claims are using the stoppages as a way to protect less competitive airlines.

Ryanair said: “If this possible strike action goes ahead a contingency plan will be put in place which should allow Ryanair flights to and from these airports to operate on these days.

“However, we cannot guarantee that baggage handling facilities will be available and consequently we may be unable to accept checked baggage on all flights to and from the above airports on these dates.

“We recommend that all passengers travelling with hand baggage only check-in online to minimise disruption.”

For passengers checking in hand luggage via the internet, Ryanair is reminding people that there is a maximum weight of 10kgs, with dimensions no greater than 55cmx40cmx20cm.

Ryanair has said it will update its website with the latest news on the planned strikes.
