Dear Gary

Could you inform us if it is possible to park a Motorhome at the VIP parking section of Barcelona Airport. It is 6.85 m Long and 2.65 m high.

The dates will be between 23rd September to 6th October.

My Spanish is not very good and when I called directly they could not understand my request.

Kind regards

Mike Sharp

MY REPLY

Hi Mike

We just called the airport, The VIP parking does not ahve any spaces big enough.

So, we called the normal airport car park and they are VERY helpful, they said that when you get there just go to the INFORMATION point and they will take you to the parking bays motorhomes. The cost for that length of time will be €180.

I have been to Barcelona quite a few times and the car parks at the airport are pretty secure, much higher security than airports like Reus and Girona so I amsure that your motorhome will be fine.

I hope all goes well and it would be great to hear how you got on so that we can help other travelers who may have a similar questions.

Regards

Gary

Dear Gary

As promised here is the outcome of our experience parking the Motorhome at Barcelona Airport.

On arrival at the Airport, I went to the Parking Information at Terminal C. I explained that we had a motorhome and informed them of the dimensions. They could speak good English and advised that I should park at the Car Park opposite Terminal B as there are plenty of spaces. They also advised that the cost for 11 nights would be around 140 euros.

Once in the expansive car park we drove round and could not see any specifically larger spaces but there was plenty of room. An attendant in a "golf" buggy approached us and directed us to a fairly central point placing the van over 2 marked parking spaces and indicated that they could monitor the van with their security cameras so we felt even more assured.

On our return we were very happy to see the Van safe and in tact. However there was a note on the windscreen which had been placed there on the day we parked the Van. It advised to go to the Parking Information Desk to discuss an issue regarding the Van. Naturally we thought there may had been some attempted break in or such like so went to the desk..

The attendant explained that they wanted us to pay for 2 spaces since we were parked on 2. That was 144 euros x 2 = 288 euros. I explained as best I could that we had checked and that someone on our behalf (ie you) had spoken to information with all the details and we had been assured of no problems and of the cost. I also explained that their own Information point on arrival had confirmed the same. They were adamant so I asked to see the Supervisor. After a 15-20 minute wait she arrived. She claimed she could speak no English at all but luckily a gentleman in the queue offered to transalate. I even showed your email and she basically called me a liar saying that no one would confirm any of this either by phone or at their Information Points and that no one would have told me where to park etc.

Eventually it became obvious that they would not budge and even the Gentleman transalating admitted they were unfair but not willing to cooperate. I paid which they took as 2 seperate Credit Card transactions.

We do appreciate your help and are sorry that the effort you went to ended up being ignored by their staff in a revenue enhancement excercise. I don't know if there is any point of recourse but imagine we shall have to put it down to experience.

Thanks for your time .

Regards

Hi Mike

I am sorry to hear about your bad news, my wife Jo specifically called the airport BUT after living here in Spain for nearly 4 years I know that what one person tells you and what another believes is not always the samething!

If there is a downside to living here that is it!

I will add your email to the site a little later and it can act as w arning to other travellers.

Again I am sorry that the information we gave you in good faith proved to be incorrect.

Thanks for the update and let me know how you get on if you try and appeal, in my opinion it is always worth a go!

Regards

Gary
