Hi,
I am flying into Vitoria Airport next March on a Saturday about 15:30 from London and need to get to Roncesvalles to begin the Camino. Can you advise me of how to travel by bus to Roncesvalles, where I would get connections and if I would need to stay overnight on Saturday night before travelling on.

MY REPLY
Hi Vivien
This one stumped me so I reffered it to my freind, Dave Bubier whose reply is below
Saturday is decidely not the best day to arrive for this journey! Whether there are yet any buses serving Vitoria airport remains unknown, there has been talk recently, so it may be necessary to take a taxi into the city centre. From thence you need to get to Pamplona, either by bus (fairly frequent, but possibly less so on a Saturday evening) or take the train.
Then the problems start, the next bus (www.montanesa.com) to Roncesvalles is at 1800 on Monday (the previous one left at 1600 on Saturday afternoon)! The Spanish Ministerio de Fomento is working on providing more bus routes from Madrid, etc, to the Camino border crossing starting points at Arneguy and Roncesvalles, but that may be a year or more away yet. In this particular instance it may be necessary to arrange something and I can do no better than refer you to the www.caminosantiago.com who include links to organisers of individual transport especially tailored for pilgrims.
Good luck Vivien
