A bad day at Murcia Airport

Hi Gary,
As a recent visitor to Murcia airport, I feel the need to sound off a little about the services provided there. I went to the airport to collect my brother on a Belfast flight which was delayed due to the recent security scare. I had to wait 60 minutes in the airport so I went to the Merlia shop to buy a newspaper at 10am. The notice on the window stated back in 5 minutes as the girl was counting the papers. I waited until 10.20am when the girl came out of the shop and told me she would be back in 5 mins.At 10.45 she still hadn't come back so I went outside and saw her chatting and having a smoke. I think it's ridiculous that this shop should close for 5 minutes never mind over 45 mins.
When I was departing for home, I was also disappointed to see the same shop doesn't even open up until after 9am! I went into the departure lounge to find that the restaurant facilities are practically non existant. This is supposed to be an international airport!! Not impressed.

Hi Brian

Thanks for your email, I am going to put this up on the site tomorrow as a warning to other travellers to make sure that they know what to expect.

Over the next few years a new airport should be constructed in Murcia as the old one is way to inadequate to deal with the needs of todays travellers. Public transport is also virtually non existant!

With regards to the opening of the shop.......this is one of the frustrating things about living in Spain!!!!

Hope you have a better experience on next years holidays

Regards

Gary

As regular user of Murcia airport |I would like to say that we like this airport just as it is.
We do not need mass improvements just efficiency in processing people as I for one like to spend as little time as possible at the airport, it should not be seen as a centre for entainment.
The whole appeal of this area of Spain is its lack of commercialism.
As with many facets of life in Spain things move much more slowly and you should be prepared and always carry a book!
