Flights from Jerez
Jerez is becoming a busier airport and Monarch have just announced that they are flying to Jerez from Manchester in March next year (2007).So this week I flew in and out of Jerez Airport, partly because the flights were cheap and partly because I wanted to use the airport and see if the journey from Marbella was worthwhile.
We flew out last Tuesday on the 1135 flight through Ryanair, we left home at 8am and had a straight forward drive up to Jerez via the A7 Autopista and then taking the A381 up to Jerez from Algerciras. The Journey took 1 hour and 40 minutes and was about 170 kms. (full driving info here)
The first and only really annoying thing about using Jerez Airport is that the long term parking is expensive. At the moment there is a dodgy looking guy by a caravan on the way into the airport who says he does long term parking but it's not clear for how much, or you go into the normal car park in the airport where the fee is €9 per day. Not the end of the world I know but a lot more than the €3 per day I pay at Malaga Airport. However, the car park is only about 20 metres from the terminal building and it is easy to pull up outside the departures door and offload your luggage etc before going to park.
The queue for the Ryanair check in desks was long but quick and because the airport deals with such a small number of flights there are not that many people milling about. If you want to buy a magazine or newspaper (in English) then make sure you buy one before you go through to the Departures Hall, the newsagents is on the left before the baggage x-ray machine. i forgot and had to go out and back through the baggage check again.
In the departures hall there is a cafe selling coffees (€1.20), beers and sandwiches, crisps etc and an Aldeasa shop where you can buy Spanish priced Cigarettes, perfumes etc. There are plenty of seats and a lot of room. Once boarding is announced you walk about 50m from the terminal building to the plane.Flying back into Jerez was equally as pleasent, a short 50m walk into the terminal building from the plane, a 2 minute queue for Passport control and a 10 minute wait for the bags. After that it was a 50 metre walk to the car and a 95 minute drive home.
SummaryIf I compare flying out of Jerez with flying out of Malaga then I would always fly out of Jerez. The 90 minute car journey can be a pain for some people but for us it's a 45 minute drive to and from Malaga Airpoirt and then the long term car parks are another 20 mins of messing around, if you add on the loooooooooong walk to the baggage hall after you have landed I reckon Malaga is only just quicker!
Add in the peace and quiet and relaxing atmosphere of Jerez Airport and for us (travelling with a toddler) it made the journey a lot easier. For those of you heading down to the Costa Del Sol from Jerez don't rely on public transport, give it a bit of time and there may be a direct bus route but at the moment it's not worth the saving. Watch this space because I think the routes back to the UK from here are going to expand and unlike Reus & Girona the airport is already big enough to handle it.

Such a great article, I feel as if I was there with you!
Hi Gary,
That dodgy looking guy is apparently ok! He sits in the caravan overnight and is the security. He charges 15 euros a week to park there.

Hello there. I just found your wesite and am grateful for the information about Jerez and how much is costs to park there, etc. My husband and I are flying out of there soon and we have done a drive-thorough of the airport this past weekend. I have a question for you: which car lot is the long-term lot? Is it the first one on your left as you drive towards the building, or is it the second? We weren't sure which we would have to use. Any information would be helpful. Thank you for your time!

Hi Paige
When I went there I used to second one, directly opposite the terminal building, I used it because it was the closest to the terminal, I think the first one you see is just an overspill car park or staff parking.
I don't belive that either of them long or short term, I think both car parks cover both.
There is also a guy in a field with a caravan on the appraoch road to the airport who does long term parking, €15 per week but I can't find anyone that has used him. I didn't use him becuase we have a little girl and I didn't want to mess about.
Let me know how you get on if you decide to use the guy in the field, it would be great info to have.
Info about it is at bottom of this article:

Does anyone know of an airline that flys direct from Malaga or Jerez to Paphos, Cyprus, we fly there quite often and at the moment are having to fly via the UK?
Amanda
Hi Amanda
You cannot get a direct flight from Jerez or Malaga to Paphos, in fact I an pretty certain that you can't get a flight from anywhere in Spain direct to Paphos!
Going via the UK is probably the best and only option at the moment.

Gary
Thanks, I thought so it was worth a check.

Hi Gary
Great info re Parking at Jerez - makes me wonder why they don't just post the prices etc on their site. Anyway since they don't seem to thanks for doing it for us
All the best, Anthony
The guy in the caravan appears fine. It is 15 euros per week or 50 per month and you need to post the money along with the car registration number in a letter box on the side of the caravan.
This long term parking seems to be associated with the restaurant which is almost adjacaent.
Hi,
Great article. Have used Malaga Airport and Gibraltar to travel to Spain and someone informed me of Jerez but I wasn't sure!. On seeing your comments I have booked tickets for Christmas. Thanks.
Re : Parking at Jerez - Guy in caravan
The parking on the slip road to the airport is run by the people in the Venta whuch is a little further along the road. You can pay your money to a person behind the counter and he/she makes a note of your registration number alongwith how may days you will be there. Not quite sure what they do if you stay longer than you have paid for but I have left my car there a couple of times and had no problem. Have never actually seen the guy in the caravan but it´s good to hear that someone does actually stay there overnight.
Hi Aiden
Thnaks for the update, thats great info
wIn November, my wife and I are hoping to fly one-way from Barcelona to Jerez. Veuling supposedly makes this trip but -- strangely -- can't tell us if such flights will be on their schedule until October. Other than Spanair, which is not all that inexpensive, are there any other discount airlines that fly this route ? If so, we would greatly -- and genuinely -- appreciate such information.
Thank you for your time and attention.
rxfrance@yahoo.com
P.S. And are there trains of busses -- even a ferry -- that can take us from Cadiz to Lisbon ?
Hi, You could also try Iberia, Spains national carrier.
Getting to Lisbon would mean getting a bus into Jerez and then a bus upto Seville.
I am not sure if you can get a train direct from Seville to Lisbon.
If not then you will need to get another bus to Faro and then Train or bus to Lisbon from there!
Good luck
Gary
Hi,
I would an information.
I arrive at the airport of Alicante and I have to go to Algericias Port.
Which are the cheapest ways?
Thanks a lot,
D
PS. I'll travell in August
Hi Gary
I have been using the short term carpark fore 7-10 day spells but need to leave the car for at least a month in mid October is the field still ok?
27/11/07 - Has anyone been able to find out if Monarch are going to re-start the Manchester/Jerez service? I can't get any sensible answer out of them despite trying by phone, email and letter.
Hi Gary
If one were to use the site outside the airport, what provision is there, if any, for getting to and from the airport
Brenda
Hello, I used the car park, which has the caravan, for a 3 weeks in Nov 2007. Just wrote car reg and dates and number of days staying on envelope, with cash inside, and put in caravan letterbox. Only problem is the walk to the airport if it is dark or raining, it approx 10 mins. Dropped off luggage and fellow passengers first. Car was fine, dusty but fine.

CHEAP PARKING - CARAVAN NEAR JEREZ AIRPORT
I have had experience of parking here and, although it may be considerably cheaper than the airport, it still cost me a hell of a lot!
Firstly, I have parked there a few times and have never ever seen anyone there guarding anything, let alone staying in the caravan overnight.
If there was someone in the caravan overnight, then I probably wouldn't have had 3 of my hubcaps stolen on one occasion and both my wing mirrors and a bike rack stolen from my vehicle whilst it was parked there on another.
The hubcaps I let go, but when the wing mirrors and bike rack went I politely notified the owner via e-mail of these two occasions I got a reply saying that he'd never heard of anything ever being stolen from a vehicle there. The reply I got was almost accusatory in the sense that he didn't believe that this had happened and there wasn't even a "sorry to hear that". I replied to this saying ok maybe he hadn't heard of anything going missing, but I was just letting him know, to which I got a reply saying I was not welcome there again.
I would advise you use this purely at your own risk.
Hi fellow travelers to Jerez airport
Pity someone wouldent set up a more secure carpark with a bus every hour at least (for the hard of walking)to the airport. Its not that cheap compared to Malaga outside parking which gives terrific service and security in fairness for much the same price. If you have a newish car, beware.
