Driving from Jerez to Marbella

Hi Gary,
This site is great, it's so useful! I'm flying out next week, and I've opted to fly to Jerez instead of Malaga. Then I'll be driving on to Marbella. I looked at a basic map (not taking into account roads - silly I know) and figured it should roughly take me 2 hours to do the drive. Then I spoke to a friend (who hasn't been for a few years) who told me I'm looking a 3-4 hour drive as there are no direct routes. I was going to buy a detailed map online, but I'm not sure when I'd use it again. Do you know which roads I need to take? Is it a fairly easy route? I'd appreciate any and all information!
Thank you
Natalie

Hi Natalie,
I am in the UK so sorry for the delay! I have just flown from Jerez with Ryanair and I live in Marbella so your in luck!
The journey took me 90 minutes on Tuesday morning, it used to take a lot longer but there is a great new road now that connects Jerez to Algerciras (A-381) follow this link for a good map, the road is in dark yellow/orange

Hope this helps, we are flying back to Jerez on Monday evening!
Good luck and enjoy the drive it's great scenery!

Hi Natalie
Drove back from Jerez to Marbella last night, landed at 2045 got home at 2345, not bad but I didnt have to wait for a hire car!
Will write up my directions later on the message board but there's a a couple of turn offs that ARE NOT that clear.
1) Out of the airport head for Jerez / Cadiz
2) After about 5mins take junction 631 (E5 / A4 Cadiz - Seville)
3) When you get to the E5 / A4 take the road to Cadiz
4) After a couple of mins you leave this road for the A-381 Los Barrios / Algerciras
5) You come to a t-junction after 100m , Turn left (accross the road) towards Los Barrios / Algerciras
You are then OK for about 100kms, Straight road!
6) As you get towards Gibraltar abd Algerciras the road divides and you need to follow the road to MALAGA
after 60/70 kms you will get to the San Pedro junction, bets to get directions from the AA for the journey from here!
The road between Jerez and Algerciras is new and so some of the junction haven't been marked that well yet.
Anyway have a great time
Regards
Gary

Hi Gary,
This is wonderful! Thank you so much. I'm sure this will really help, the road signs there aren't the most straightforward, or accurate!
Once I get on the either the A7 or the road that runs by La Canada (E15?) I'm fine, know exactly where I'm going then! That's great it only took two hours including getting your luggage! I've guestimated 30mins to sort out the car hire, I'm hoping the queue wont be as long as at Malaga. But either way, as long as the drive doesn't take 3 or 4 hours I'll be happy!
Thank you so much! I really wasn't expecting this, I'm really grateful. I will definately be telling everyone about you site, the information you give is better than anything else out there on the net - you can quote me on that!
Have a great time too
Natalie
