My family and I are flying out of Murcia airport on Sunday 04/06/2006 with
Ryan air to Dublin. A friend who is flying into Murcia on the same day has
been told that he has been transferred to Alicante because there is an
airshow at Murcia airport. Can you let me have details of anything you may
know about this, there is nothing on Ryan Airs web page. Thanks.

Hi,
I found the following information on jet2's website:--
http://www.jet2.com/timetables/cheap-flights/manchester-to-murcia.aspx
We have been informed by the military authorities controlling Murcia Airport that due to an Air Show they will be hosting over the first weekend of June, they will not be able to accept commercial scheduled flights either into or out of Murcia Airport during the majority of the day on either Saturday 3rd or Sunday 4th June 2006.
Consequently, we have been obliged to re-route most flights, originally scheduled to and from Murcia on these dates, to Alicante Airport instead of Murcia. Flight times will remain unchanged. As you may know Alicante Airport is a 45 minute drive away from Murcia and also very convenient for the Costa Brava/Costa Calida region. Jet2.com will NOT be providing onward transportation from or to Alicante
So it looks like you may have to land in Alicante aswell!
I think its best if you contact Ryanair direct and find out what they have to say.
Once you find out could you let me know So that I can add a warning on my site and help other travellers
Regards
Gary

Hi Gary
Have spoken today 21/05/06 to Globespan UK asking what is happening regarding
flights from Murcia on the 4th of June 2006.
My family and I are travelling back that day to Edinburgh from Murcia flight
time 21:30pm. The girl that I spoke to was certainly not helpfull when I
asked if we were being divereted to Alicante! Her coment was that not all
flights were being moved and that they (Globespan) would not know anything
until next week! Seems rather strange when jet2.com have it advertised on
their website of the changes being made.
The change of airport doesnt effect my family too much as we have used Alicante
on many occassions, what I am concerned about is that we have booked a hire
car from Murcia airport for the week and we should be picking up and dropping
off from there!

Hello again Gary!
I have this morning managed to get through to Ryanair who have assured me that their flights will not be affected by the airshow at Murcia.
Although I have to say I'm not convinced! I sould think the only way they wont be affected is because the Ryanair flight that day doesnt land until 9.15pm, by which thime I'm assuming the show will be over for the day.
My mum who lives in Spain also rang Murcia Airport, and they told her that they are keeping one runway open for Ryanair flights, so I suppose we will just have to present ourselves on time at East Midlands and hope for the best!
Thanks for your help.

Murcia San Javier is closed for an air Show on Saturday-Sunday 3rd-4th June. My flight inwards is Globespan GSM 531 arriving at 20.30 Hours Friday 3rd June. Will the airport be open still to accept this and other scheduled flights or will they be diverted to Alicante?
Thank you,
Douglas Macfarlane

Hi Douglas theres various reports being put out from different airlines, we have a few people posting here:
http://www.spanish-airport-guide.com/2006/05/murcia-airport-closed-for-airshow-04.html
Jet2 say they have moved their flights, Easyjet have moved their flights (see here),
Ryanair are saying they are not affected and Flyglobespan havent made an offical press release!
I am sure the flights will go ahead if Flyglobespan say they are. If you get any news please let us know
Regards and I hope that all goes well

Dear Gary,
I'm booked on Flybe flight BE1571, dep Exeter 1605 on Sat 3/6/06, arriving Murcia 1935. Local experts tell me the airport is closed for an air show all day, but Flybe assure me the flight will take place as scheduled. Any information gratefully received!

Just found this information:
"
Passengers travelling with Flybe from Southampton, Norwich and Birmingham have been advised by the airline that flights to Murcia will be disrupted this weekend (June 3/4).
The Murcia-based Military Academy will be holding an International Air Display at the Spanish city's airport, meaning it will be closed during regular opening hours.
However, Flybe has re-jigged its arrival times so that passengers can still travel to Murcia this weekend, rather than be re-directed through Alicante.
On June 3, three flights will be affected:
Flight BE 1601 from Southampton will take off at 3.35pm, arriving in Murcia at 7.05pm; the return flight will leave at 7.55pm and touch down in Southampton at 9.25pm.
Flight BE 1301 from Norwich will depart at 4.15pm and arrive at 8.00pm, with the return flight leaving at 8.35pm and reaching Norwich at 10.20pm.
Flight BE 1247 from Birmingham will leave at 4.55pm and touch down in Murcia at 8.30pm. On the return leg, the flight will leave Murcia at 9.30pm and arrive back home at 11.05pm.
Meanwhile on June 4, BE 1247 from Birmingham will take off at 4.40pm, arriving at 8.15pm; coming back, it will leave Murcia at 8.35pm and touch down in Birmingham at 10.30pm."
