Reus Airport Information
I recently went to Barcelona and thought that I should hire a car and drive down to Reus Airport as I hadn't been there for a while and I wanted to see what was going on.Reus Airport is a small and until recently relatively unknown airport about 100 kms south of Barcelona. In 1995 just 473,000 passed through Reus Airport and these were mainly charter flights arriving over the summer months from the UK and Germany.
By 2004 passenger numbers had soared to just over 1.1 million thanks largely to Iberia Airlines for providing a decent number of internal flights from Madrid and Palma de Mallorca, Rynair from the UK and Ireland and Air Berlin from Germany. There are still a large number of charter flights that offer flights here over the peak summer months.
Aena the Spanish Airport Authority, have been busy slowly upgrading Reus Airport and there is now a new arrivals terminal with a decent coffee shop, four car hire companies and quick access to both the buses and taxis at Reus Airport.
Work has also begun on the departures terminal and a new check in area has been completed. Although this area has been finished you still have to walk through into the old departures hall to go through passport and customs control.
The thing that surprised me the most was that parking at the airport is completely free, I can't see this lasting too much longer.
Ryanair advertise the airport as Reus Barcelona and getting up to Barcelona from here is not that bad. There are however twelve different UK Airports offering direct flights into Barcelona Airport and if you are only here for a weekend it is worth paying a little bit more money and arriving in Barcelona itself rather than Reus. From March 2006 there is also a new direct flight from glasgow Prestwick to Reus with Ryanair.
Reus is however a great airport for those of you who are traveling to the busy resort of Salou or the City of Tarragona. It is also pretty easy to get to the exclusive resort of Sitges from here.
I drove in my hire car from Barcelona down to Reus and the journey took around 1¼ hours. It's and easy drive along the toll road and the airport is well sign posted.
I have put up detailed information within the main site on : Reus Airport Arrivals, , Reus Airport Departures, Reus Airport Buses, Reus Airport Taxis, Private Reus Airport Transfers, Reus Airport Shopping, Reus Airport Parking, Flights to Reus and the following car hire companies Avis at Reus Airport, Europcar at Reus Airport, Hertz at Reus Airport and Solmar at Reus Airport.
